Castaic lake is located in Castaic, California at the north end of Los Angeles County and is part of the California state aqueduct system, providing water to Southern California. Castaic Lake is made up of two bodies of water, the upper lake and the Castaic Lagoon. The upper lake covers 323,700 acres with a surface elevation near 1,500 feet. The Castaic Lagoon is located to the immediate south of the lake and covers 197 acres.

Both bodies of water are considered world class fisheries, with the upper lake holding largemouth bass, striped bass, carp, trout, catfish, and panfish. The Castaic Lagoon holds most of the same fish with the exception of striped bass and catfish. Because there are no striped bass in the Lagoon, the largemouth bass have grown to world record sizes and many trophy hunters travel to Castaic in an effort to catch one of these monster bass.

Along with fishing, Castaic Lake offers many outdoor activities including hiking and water skiing. There are trails on the western side of the upper lake which offer lake views, and there are concrete paths at the Castaic Lagoon for the less adventurous which run parallel to the water. Whether it is fishing or hiking, or any other outdoor activity you are looking for, Castaic Lake is the place to find it all.
