The Castaic Upper Lake
The upper lake at Castaic is divided into two main areas, the ski arm and the fishing arm. Water skiing and fishing are permitted on either side, but there are rules that make each area unique. The ski arm is on the west side and extends back to the buoy line in front of the back dam. There is also a designated area near the main launch ramp for personal watercraft. Fisherman are not permitted to troll in the main part of this arm of the lake. The fishing arm is located on the east side of the lake and has quite a few coves where skiing is not permitted. This side of the lake extends back to Elizabeth Canyon.
The upper lake is home to some huge stripers, catfish, largemouth bass, trout, carp, and pan fish. Most of the fishable structure lies under the surface of the water, so it helps to have good electronics on your boat when fishing this lake.
There are two boat ramps on the upper lake, the main ramp on the east side and the west ramp which is used mainly for tournaments. Boat rentals are available at the east ramp.
